I was feeling a little frustrated. I’d spent all my extra time, whilst working, building my business, so I could get to the point where I could quit my job and focus fully on my dreams. I’d read ridiculous amounts of ‘success’ stories. All telling me, to be successful, I would need to get up at 6am, work-out, write in my journal, plan my day and have it all done by 9am. Well, I built my business, got to the point I could quit my 9 – 5 and I was so excited to finally be able to do it like the great. I was getting up at 6am, doing my yoga routine (okay maybe it was a little half-hearted), drinking water and then sitting down to get started on my amazing and productive day. And then…. Nothing! I mean NOTHING!! My brain just a total blank, seriously, not even the tiniest puff of inspiration. What the hell? I’ve read the books, I’ve done what they told me to do and nada, ziltch, zip, diddly-squat, my brain refuses to play ball. Oh sure it will wake up and reel out a million and one ideas once my head hits the pillow and I’ll spend the next 2 hours, at least, trying to shut it up, so I can get the sleep I need for my super successful, early start, tomorrow.
After spending, no scrap that, wasting sooo much time trying to follow the well versed rules of success. I realised, at around 11:30pm on a Monday evening, that my motivation, my inspiration doesn’t rise with the sun. My power rises with the stars, I’m a NIGHT GODDESS baby. I’m reaching for the stars and they are all on my side.
My best work, my greatest inspiration have all come between the hours of 10pm and 4am. That’s not to say I don’t work any other time, I do and I’ll also get a spike of motivation between 10am and 2pm before I start to fade again but I am more focused, more productive and feel a crazy sense of excitement working late into the night. So I’m taking a stand, I’m proving that not everyone diarise’s passion and success on a regular calendar. There are many great leaders, entrepreneurs, artists and creators who rose and continue to rise with the stars.
I’m doing it my way, I’ll watch the summer sun rise before I go to sleep and I’ll be awake to see it set and ready to release my star power.
I’m embracing the night goddess I am and breaking all the rules.
Who’s with me?
If you don’t configure to the ‘norm’.
If you’ve tried to do it, the same way the already rich and successful tell you it should be done.
You’ve gotten up at 6am, you’ve done the morning success routine but nothing comes.
If you end those days feeling tired and un-productive.
If you go to bed, ready to try again tomorrow and your brain, your mind has other ideas.
I’m with you, you are not alone and no matter what the time, if you have passion and drive, you and your dreams CAN be an amazing success.
Who wants to be an early bird anyway, when you’re destined to be a NIGHT GODDESS!
Embrace it baby!!
My top tip for success: Know your time.
Learn to recognise the times you work at your best and embrace them. Once you know your best times you can schedule that time for your most important and creative work. On the flip-side know when you are not at your best and use this time for your ‘lighter’ tasks, for the mundane or to catch up on your own personal development and ‘me time’
