When it comes to incorporating SEO into your website, it can all be a bit, actually a lot overwhelming. I’m a big believer in creating engaging copy that attracts and inspires my ideal audience and doing so in a way that shows there is actually a human behind my brand. Now I’m no SEO expert, it’s just not my thing, in fact, I would rather watch paint dry than read through the longwinded, head-melting but oh-so “proper” guides I come across when attempting to learn. That being said I do know enough to offer a few tips to improve your website’s SEO and boost your appeal to the search engines, particularly Google.

So without further ado here are my top, non-head-melting, tips to rule your rankings with SEO:

1. As well as your home page, make sure you also have a thorough about page, easy to find contact page, Privacy policy, and terms of service pages.

2. Where possible, organise content on your Web page into sections, with each section covering a sub-topic because as well as looking at the page as a whole, Google will also treat each section like a mini web page, giving you more opportunity to rank.

3. Have a blog and use it. Each blog post is an opportunity for you to show Google both your expertise and the keywords or phrases they should rank you for. Blogs are also a great space for you to share mentions and external links to your business. Google loves sites that show Expertise, Authority, and Trustworthiness (E.A.T), and a blog plus having the pages in tip 1 will go a long way to establishing this. Another tip, include author bylines on the profile of anyone writing and publishing posts.

4. Compress images and files as much as you can without affecting the quality of the image, this will help increase your web speed, and no one, especially Google, likes a slow loading site.

5. Always check to make sure your website is mobile-friendly, with the majority of audiences searching from their phones, if yours isn’t mobile-friendly, visitors will quickly leave and Google doesn’t like that.

Finally, I just want to add, have them in mind but don’t obsess too much over keywords, just do you and you will likely find that you have included them, naturally.
