Many of us know we are not reaching our true potential. If unleashing your potential aroused your curiosity then there is something inside you that knows you are not yet all you can be. Whether you stumbled upon this post or you were searching for it it’s time to unleash your potential.
The first step is to believe in your potential. It doesn’t matter what you are doing now or what you have done, what matters is that you believe, that with whatever you have now, you can do something to move towards the life you desire and the person you are supposed to be.
The majority of highly successful people out there have become who they are not, from where they came from or all the things they had but from the belief that they had the potential to achieve their dreams. If you are not the person you wish to be, then you need to change your mindset. Who can you be? What are you focusing on?
If you are focusing on what you don’t have or are not yet, you can not grow.
Everything you focus on must affect you positively.
The thing you set your mind on is the thing you ultimately become – Nathaniel Hawthorne
The following six steps will help you get clear on your purpose, know what you really want and move you forward in unleashing your potential.
1. Stop focusing on what you haven’t yet achieved and spend some time, everyday, focusing on what you have.
Get a journal or notebook and everyday use it as your reflective journal. If you are not sure what to write use our reflective diary worksheet to help.
2. Know what you want.
What do you want to be remembered for? What greatness will be your Legacy? What difference do you want to make?
The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of this life is to decide what you want.
The kind of want I am talking about is the kind of want that you feel with every cell of your body. The kind of want that widens your eyes and fills your mind with a multitude of emotions. Both excitement and fear overwhelm you, your stomach flutters and turns, your heart races at the very thought of it. Your body reacts as though it’s getting ready for a fight, because to achieve the life you really want, you are going to have to fight for it.
3. Determination.
That thing that you want, that dream you have is not going to come easy . You have to realise that challenges come with the territory. You have to be determined to get what you want. You have to be willing to work on your dreams everyday . No matter how hard things get, no matter how tired you are, you have got to have the determination to go all out and get it. If there is still breath in your body, if your heart still beats then you haven’t given it your all.
4. Set goals
Write down your dream and set the goals you need to reach to get there. The power of goal setting is that we take our dreams and define them with precision. It is the first step from dreamer to creator. Every goal you set must have a purpose and it must excite you. If your goals don’t make you want to get out of bed in the morning then you’re not setting the right ones
5. Keep learning
Learn everything you possibly can about who you are and what you want. Know yourself inside out. Not what other people tell you but what you know.
Develop and work on yourself everyday. Read books, learn from the people who inspire and motivate you. Whatever you need to know to get you to where you need to be, learn about it. Finally, learn from your mistakes. Expect and accept that you are going to make them, embrace making those mistakes. Our greatest and most powerful lessons come from the mistakes we make, the setbacks and knockdowns we enjoy.
